We enlisted the skin experts at LovelySkin to weigh in on the changing seasons and how we need to adjust our skincare routine with each one. Read what they had to say.

When the weather fluctuates, we naturally change our wardrobe to stay comfortable and accommodate our bodies for the elements. Shifting seasons can bring about significant changes in your skin, and just as you switch your clothes, you may need to adjust your skin care products to keep your complexion balanced and healthy.

Some individuals may not need to make significant changes to their skin care arsenal each season, while others may need to carry out a total overhaul. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all regimen, so you’ll want to examine your skin carefully—it should be able to tell you exactly what it needs. And remember, broad spectrum sun protection, like GOLDFADEN MD Sun Visor, is a must every day, rain or shine, no matter the season.

Autumn

You may begin to notice skin dryness early on in autumn as cool, moisture-depleted air begins to take the place of humidity. When coupled with sun and chlorine damage leftover from summer, this cool air has the potential to leave skin uncomfortably tight. Fine lines and wrinkles may become more pronounced and skin may appear dull and lackluster. The vampy, matte makeup styles of fall may only pronounce the problem!

Winter is also famous for inducing excess dryness, but making the proper changes in the fall can prevent dry skin from growing itchy, flaky and irritated come December. First, amp up your moisture level by switching your summer lotion for a cream. Creams are thicker and tend to provide a stronger barrier against dehydration. Applying body lotion while skin is still damp after a shower is a great way to lock in moisture and maintain softness and suppleness. You’ll also want to exfoliate with GOLDFADEN MD Doctor’s Scrub once or twice a week to remove any skin cells and dulling debris.

Winter

Harsh winds and cold, dry air can exacerbate the dryness of autumn and throw skin off balance. Excessive dryness may bring about redness, flakiness and irritation, and it may even prompt excess oil production, resulting in acne breakouts.

In addition to a day cream, you can add a rich night cream, like GOLDFADEN MD Regenerative Night Cream, to your regimen to help plump and hydrate skin while you sleep. You may also need to up your exfoliation, switching to GOLDFADEN MD Doctor’s Scrub Advanced to smooth any rough patches and encourage a brighter complexion. Hands are prone to roughness and cracking in winter. In addition to wearing gloves when outdoors, you can apply GOLDFADEN MD Hands to Heart daily. Finally, adding GOLDFADEN MD Fresh A Peel to your routine can help provide additional exfoliation and reveal a radiant complexion.

Spring

Come spring, you’ll begin to recover from winter dryness without yet experiencing the oil-inducing humidity of summer. Skin that was hidden away under pants and long sleeves during the fall and winter months will be revealed again, and you may discover rough patches on the feet, knees and elbows.

You’ll want to continue exfoliating once a week to maintain a bright, even complexion, and in later spring you can trade your cream for a lotion for lightweight hydration. Focus on rough patches in stubborn areas of the body with GOLDFADEN MD Doctor’s Scrub Advanced. Spring is a wonderful time to try new things and throw away any products that have expired. Check formulas to be sure they haven’t changed in color, smell or consistency and toss any sunscreens older than a year. Try GOLDFADEN MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil to give skin a healthy glow and get it summer-ready.

Summer

In summer, you may find yourself spending time outdoors nearly every day and enjoying frequent dips in the pool or ocean. Hotter temperatures can bring about heavy perspiration and oily skin, resulting in frequent breakouts. If you are prone to hyperpigmentation, sun exposure may induce dark spots and freckles or worsen symptoms of melasma.

Keep acne at bay by cleansing with GOLDFADEN MD Pure Start twice daily. You’ll also need to continue to exfoliate at least once a week to remove the bacteria responsible for blemishes and keep pores free of clogging debris. Many believe that oily skin eliminates the need for a moisturizer, but in actuality, skin exposed to air conditioning, chlorine and saltwater requires a lightweight lotion or serum. To keep skin plump and hydrated and strengthen it against environmental stressors, try GOLDFADEN MD Radical Difference. To address dark spots, you may need to add a lightening treatment, like GOLDFADEN MD Light Treatment, to your routine.

When faced with the task of rehabilitating skin between any season, choose GOLDFADEN MD Skin Renewal Starter Kit. The kit contains Doctor’s Scrub, Pure Start and Vital Boost to encourage a smooth complexion with a healthy, radiant glow.
