International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, age, economic or political. It’s a celebration where we unite as a global community to celebrate women, their endless drive, passion, impact and tireless effort in making a difference.

This week in celebration of International Women’s Day and our #GoldfadenMDForHercampaign, a movement to celebrate and support some incredible women doing great things and trailblazing leadership in the industry they are passionate about, we are so excited to be highlighting Sasha Plavsic, founder of one of our favorite all-natural makeup brands, Ilia Beauty.  We have long admired Sasha for what she has developed at Ilia and stand behind everything they stand for – Performance Driven. Effective. Safe. This is the heart of Clean Beauty. Because we love beautiful product that is created with care on the inside and out, and believe you shouldn’t have to compromise on performance, or luxury. Being mindful that not every natural ingredient is good for the skin, nor is every synthetic bad. It’s about finding a balance and falling in love with beauty all over again, so you can feel empowered by a sense of choice.

She has developed some of the most insanely gorgeous products and we are so honored to be able to sit down with her to find out more about her incredibly inspiring journey.

What is your favorite part about your job?

My favorite part about my job is to create products that I hope people will fall in love with and push the boundaries in what is possible for creativity in clean beauty.

Which women inspire you the most and why?

Cher, because she achieved success in so many areas and truly is authentic in every way. Coco Chanel for her dedication to her craft and creating one of the most iconic brands in fashion. And most recently Emma Gonzalez, from the Parkland shooting and standing up for what she believes in.

What’s your advice to women trying to make an impact in their career?

Trust your gut, don’t give up, and believe in yourself.

First thing you do when you wake up, is?

Nurse my 6 week old baby! And if I am lucky find my way to the shower with usually both kids.

Last thing you do before you go to sleep, is?

Make a wish to get at least a 4 hour stretch of sleep (other moms will understand this answer).

What will be the biggest challenge for the generation of women behind you?

Ensuring that history doesn’t keep presenting itself. I think it is a very interesting time to be a woman. Some things have come so far over the last half a century while others are starting to regress. I think it’s important to fight for what is fair and right without loosing what has already been won.

What are the best decisions that you have made in your career thus far?

To take a risk and believe I could create something from nothing. From there truly believing that there is a solution to every problem, because in a business there are many, and they constantly need to be solved.

What are the worst?

Listening to too many other people’s opinions and doubting myself. It’s important to work collaboratively, yet if you don’t listen to instinct it will come back with a vengeance.

What is your self-care routine?

A shower everyday, followed by a quick skincare and makeup routine. With a newborn that is a major feat.

This week in celebration of International Women’s Day and our #GoldfadenMDForHer campaign, a movement to celebrate and support some incredible women doing great things and trailblazing leadership in the industry they are passionate about, we are so excited to be highlighting Rachel Temko, founder of Whimsey & Row, an eco-conscious lifestyle brand founded in 2014 and based in West Los Angeles. Birthed out of a love for quality made goods and sustainable practices, our mission is to provide ease and elegance for the modern, creative woman (one of our favorites as everything is SO tres chic!).

Dive in deeper with us as we share an intimate sit down with Rachel on how and what keeps her motivated and inspired.

Tell us the story of how you started your business?
Finally fed up with the dishonest and harmful practices within the fashion industry, I went my own way and launched Whimsy + Row in 2014. I was inspired to create a brand without excess waste and egos, so I decided Whimsy + Row would be an (eco)friendly, accepting, loving brand and community. We started by popping up at Flea Markets every weekend selling vintage. Yes, every weekend for 2 years we trucked a mini boutique full of whimsical goodies all over America. We started with vintage, then purchased other brands, which lead us to create our own eco-friendly clothing brand.

Which women inspire you the most and why?
I am inspired by women entrepreneurs and our customers the most. It takes a lot of passion and courage to start a company and make it successful, so I have a ton of respect for other ladies who are hustling just like me. Everything I do for the company is to help woman and their feedback is what drives me.

What’s your advice to women trying to make an impact in their career?
Everything important is worth fighting for! Don’t let “no” stop you, if you’re passionate about something, visualize it and don’t take no for an answer. Make it happen! You got this!

First thing you do when you wake up, is?
Take three deep breaths.

Last thing you do before you go to sleep, is?
I stretch to unwind from the day.

What will be the biggest challenge for the generation of women behind you?
They need to be conscious about the fashion that they’re purchasing. It’s easier to walk into Forever 21 than to seek out the brands that are sustainable and eco-friendly. The younger generation will need to take it upon themselves to be educated about the brands they support and the materials that they wear.

What are the best decisions that you have made in your career thus far?
Always following my intuition, making our clothing line eco-conscious, moving to LA, Staying true to myself and remaining a kind/generous person, opening up our first storefront in West LA, and Hiring hard working badass ladies who believe in what we are doing!

What are the worst?
Thinking I could do everything on my own. It takes a village!

What is your self-care routine?
Yoga, massage, netflix & chill.

In celebration of International Women’s Day this year, we wanted to celebrate (honor) seven women who we admire and look up to and showcase the amazing work and impact they are making in their field and communities through our #GoldfadenMDForHer campaign. Dive in deeper with us as we showcase these incredibly notable and talented women.

After being diagnosed with cancer when she was 32, Elissa Goodman explored holistic alternatives and combined them with traditional treatments and was able to beat the disease. Her personal experience led her to realize the many ways in which nutrition and lifestyle affect our ability to deal with health challenges and has created the most insanely delicious and effective S.O.U.P. cleanse (so yum!), detox reset programs and is an acclaimed author to boot. She is helping to change the landscape in how we view nutrition as a way to heal our bodies and mind. Follow along as we get personal with Elissa.

Tell us the story of how you started your business?

I turned to nutrition to heal from cancer in my early thirties and from there my passion and desire to learn as much as I could continued to grow until it felt like the right time to get my certification and help others.

Which women inspire you the most and why?

Brene Brown, her work on vulnerability, leadership, and shame is powerful and I always feel inspired by her. My circle of inspirational women here in Los Angeles (so many I could name here, but check out my YouTube Show, “The Elissa Goodman Show” where I showcase so many of them!), Gwyneth Paltrow in terms of how she has made holistic wellness more accessible, Louise Haye for her work on the mind/body connection.

What’s your advice to women trying to make an impact in their career?

Find your passion and follow your intuition. Never give up on your dreams. In taking care of yourself and being the best version of you, you will also thrive in other aspects of your life.

First thing you do when you wake up, is?

Water with lemon & my morning meditation and manifestation

Last thing you do before you go to sleep, is?

Drink my Kikoko CBN tea and shut down the electronics

What will be the biggest challenge for the generation of women behind you?

Navigating an ever-changing digital world and finding connection beyond our virtual ones, learning to accept and love themselves, not getting caught up in the comparison game that is social media (that’s a hard one!)

What are the best decisions that you have made in your career thus far?

Following my intuition, staying my course, remembering my purpose and bringing myself back to it when I get off track.

What are the worst?

Bringing people on without vetting them, bringing people on against my intuition and having it backfire on me! Point is, always go with your gut feelings, it will save you so much in the long run.

What is your self-care routine?

Weekly power yoga sessions, morning meditation and manifestations, reflexology foot massage a few times a month, when things get hectic I’ll use my Unplug app and do a five minute meditation. Taking time for myself and not getting consumed with work. I follow the principles of my 7-day RESET for balance in my diet and this helps me feel more energized and focused.
