Dr. G: “When we talk about good skincare practices, there are a few important steps to follow –  Exfoliate, cleanse, treat, hydrate and protect, but healthy and vibrant looking skin does in fact also need to come from within. Q: We’re seeing a lot of superfoods in skincare. Lately, it seems as though Kale is the ingredient of the moment. What are the health benefits of kale, and how do those translate to skincare?

Dr. G: “Kale is one of the healthiest foods to eat and definitely shows on the skin. Kale contains lutein which is a carotenoid that helps fight and protect against free radicals. Kale also contains high levels of Vitamin A which helps with tissue repair, Vitamin C which assists in brightening skin and Vitamin K which helps with darkness under the eyes due to it’s coagulation properties.”

Q: Are the concentrations of kale substantial enough to really make a difference? Or do you think some of this is hype?

Dr. G: “The skin is the last organ to benefit from anything ingested as it is the furthest away from the source. So, yes putting kale directly on to the skin could be more potent than eating it , but probably not by much. Skincare products need to have the appropriate delivery system as well as crucial anti-aging ingredients to really be effective.”

Q: In your opinion, what is the most potent age-fighting cruciferous vegetable to be using topically (and ingesting internally)?

Dr. G: “Broccoli has more vitamin C than any other vegetable of its kind. As a concentrated source of this powerful antioxidant, broccoli extract offers outstanding protection from free radical assault. In addition, broccoli contains significant amounts of special flavonoids such as kaempferol and quercitin that help recycle vitamin C, thereby boosting its effectiveness. Broccoli also provides a number of important carotenoids like lutein, zeaxanthin, and beta-carotene that also function as key antioxidants to help protect your skin from the effects of premature aging. Along with vitamin E, another valuable antioxidant, broccoli is a rich source of vitamin B and health-promoting minerals like manganese and zinc.”

In the fight against aging, one of the most important areas of the body to pay attention to is the neck. The neck is often ignored and left out of the daily anti-aging regimen, resulting in crapey, sagging and dehydrated skin. The neck skin is not attached to any bones, and therefore will be one of the first areas to display the pull of gravity. Luckily there are many options to correct and prevent neck aging.

How to fight it

Always use a neck cream that contains anti-aging ingredients. When choosing a neck cream look for peptides, hydrating lightweight oils, and ingredients that offer brightening and DNA repair. Wearing an SPF on the neck and chest area is a must everyday. We also look down a lot (at our computers and phones), which causes more wrinkles. Try and place your computer higher up on your desk and hold your phone up when texting or reading. Always stand up straight as good posture can help prevent wrinkles.

Other options

While most doctors will admit that topical skincare won’t entirely cure the neck area, it definitely will help. Plant based stem cells can aid in collagen and elastin encouragement, DNA repair, brightening, skin thickening and hydration.There is also a lot of chatter about lasers and the neck. Lasers will probably never take the place of actual surgery or a ‘lift’, but they can help the surface appearance of the neck. However, lasers are pricey and not guaranteed for everyone.Botox injections are another option but starting them early is the key to success. Botox paralyzes the muscle and will not allow neck muscles to contract and sag, so starting before that happens is imperative. Early to mid 30’s is recommended start age.A neck lift can be beneficial for some who are not ready to take the leap into a full facelift. Also, pricey and still ‘real’ surgery, this may not be the best choice for some.

Ultimately we are all aging; there is no way to stop it. Fortunately there are many options to fight aging and to stay looking youthful longer. The most important thing is how you feel inside because that is where the true beauty comes from. One of the most common skincare questions asked is, when to start using an anti aging regimen. By the time your mid 20’s roll around, collagen production has already started slowing down. Collagen is one of three structural proteins that our bodies produce. Elastin and Glycosaminoglycans are the other two, which we will get to. Collagen is responsible for providing tissue and organs strength. As we age collagen is produced less and tissue begins to disconnect thus creating wrinkles, dryness and sagging skin. Elastin also plays a big role in aging, although not as plentiful in the skin as collagen, it is still important. Elastin is responsible for stretching abilities and ‘snapping back’, think of the word ‘elastic’. Once elastin starts to diminish, skin will look saggy, sunken and limp. Glycosaminoglycans are responsible for keeping collagen and elastin supported in the cellular space. If you missed the mid 20’s starting mark, do not worry. The good news is it is never too late to start an anti-aging regimen!

1.Can I use The Supreme Serum with Fleuressence oil?

No. Fleuressence is an oil and the new Supreme Serum is oil free. Our suggestions is to use Fleuressence during the day and Supreme Serum at night. Or use one every other day. For intense anti-aging benefits Supreme Serum should be used at least once a day.

2. Can I use Bright Eyes + Energetic Eye Cream together?

Yes. Bright Eyes can be used during the day or during warmer months. Energetic Eye Cream is richer in texture and contains caffeine (de-puff) and Quinoa for its proteins and riboflavins(rebuilds thin skin). Bright Eyes targets darkness and puffiness and Energetic eye Cream targets them as well in addition to rebuilding the thin eye area skin and encouraging collagen production thus getting rid of line and wrinkles.

3. Why can’t I use my neck creams on my face and vice versa?

The Lifting Neck Cream was formulated with specific ingredients(peptides and pink grapefruit oil) to target sagging thin neck skin, along with the horizontal bands and hyper pigmentation that can appear with age. The neck also tends to be drier than the face and needs more moisture. However, people make the mistake of using neck creams that are too heavy-when all they need to a medium weight neck cream. Your neck doesn’t absorb in the same manner the face does, so less is more when it comes to the neck.
