1. What’s your name & occupation?

My name is Rachel Mae Furman and I’m a “Leisure Expert” for my blog Smoke And Honey and a “Spirits Geek” for Art in the Age organic spirits.

2. Describe your beauty routine.

I am a minimalist and creature of habit. I pretty much stick to Dove soap for washing, Oil of Olay moisturizer with SPF and night cream. I try to get a Microdermabrasion facial every few months and a mani/pedi every few weeks. When I’m feeling fancy, I like a really luxurious lip color, like Chanel or Yves Saint Laurent. And I feel like I should start splurging on a really good eye cream. So I guess my style is either casual drug-store or super luxury, not much in between!

3. What are three things that you absolutely cannot live without.

My record player, good scotch, and an amazing view.

4. What is your favorite part about being a woman?

The level of emotion we’re able to feel and the depth of connection we’re able to handle. We feel hard and love even harder!

5. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received as a woman?

“Leap and the net will appear.” This is my mom’s favorite saying, and I’ve certainly put it to the test over the years. As a woman, it feels amazing to be ballsy and take risks and then have the capacity to handle the outcome. I hope I never forget that! My Grandmom also always says, “a place for everything and everything in it’s place.” Though it’s not always easy, I try really hard to keep my life and home organized, and I find that clears my mind for creativity and inspiration.

CQJ_88556. Define beauty.

Beauty to me is that exhilarating feeling when doing exactly what you want, and that glow that inevitably radiates when you do. But it’s also the grace you exude during the times when you’re trying to figure it all out. Beauty is how you handle the ebbs and flows. It’s a fire that’s lit whether you’re up or down. And, let’s admit, good skin, a little make-up and a great hair color help keep the fire lit!

7. Tell us why you love Doctors Scrub Advanced as much as we do 🙂

I admit that I was skeptical– I don’t try a lot of new products because my skin can be sensitive and I’m a creature of habit. But I kept an open mind and tried the Doctors Scrub Advanced, and I could not believe how soft and smooth my skin was! It felt like literally every bit of dead or dull skin was buffed away to reveal a much happier layer underneath. I immediately tried it on my neck and chest and got the same results. So…

Top 3 Reasons Why I’m Hooked:
1.  Natural ingredients. I don’t want chemicals all over my face!
2. Immediate gratification. If it takes 6 weeks to see results, I’ve lost interest.
3. I can do it myself. Which saves me a drive to Beverly Hills and a 6 week waiting list!

Winter can be a wonderland but not for your skin. Dry, flaky, red, irritated, inflamed and itchy skin can wreak havoc on a healthy complexion. Hydration is the main key to keeping skin balanced during the winter. Getting a head start on your winter skin regimen is the most important thing to do entering the Fall.

The reason winter months can be damaging to the skin is because there is less water or humidity in the air. Less humidity means less natural moisture on your skin. Inside heat doesn’t help the skin out either. To help control this, invest in a humidifier. Humidifiers blow cool wet air and add humidity into the room. Leaving the humidifier on and your heat off during the day can help to control inside air and keep it humid but it is especially important to run it during the night. Not only will the humidifier help keep your skin hydrated it will also help your nose and mouth not to dry out.

Two other culprits during the winter months are the Sun and wind. Many people are under the misconception that skin cannot get sunburned or windburned during the winter. Cloudy skies can disguise the actual strength of the sun and UVA/UVB rays. When there is snow on the ground the sun reflects off the white and can cause sunburn if your skin is exposed. Cold, harsh winter winds can dry the skin and cause cracking and redness. Always wear an SPF during the day and a hat if outside. To avoid windburn, cover your face with a scarf when outside in the elements.

Another easy way to get ready for winter is to look at which products you will carry into your winter regimen. If you are a retinoid or exfoliation junkie, back off. Use of Retinoids/Retinol usually causes redness, so do not add insult to injury by over usage during the winter. Try cutting back on exfoliation too, as this can strip the skin of natural oils if used too frequently. Instead of a physical scrub exfoliant consider using a hydrating acid peel, such as Fresh A Peel, which contains Lactic acid. Lactic acid is a larger molecule than Glycolic acid so it does not penetrate as deep or as quick, which makes it less aggressive. Lactic acid is also very hydrating as it pulls moisture to the surface of the skin. Try and exfoliate only a few times a week or as much as your skin can tolerate. Invest in a creamy cleanser to get skin clean on days you do not exfoliate. Choosing a hydrating serum (think Hyaluronic acid) and a hydrating moisturizer or facial oil is imperative in your regimen. stay clear of moisturizers that contain Dimethicone. While Dimethicone will make you feel hydrated it is actually only sitting on the surface of the skin and not getting absorbed. This ingredient mimics a hydrator but in reality is only a silicone blocking any nutrients from the applied moisturizer from penetrating into the skin. Consider products with coconut oil, avocado oil, grape seed oil and rose hip seed oil.

As good as it feels after a long cold walk home, avoid very hot showers as the water and heat can irritate already dried out skin. Make sure to hydrate the body and face immediately after getting out of the shower or bath as this will seal in the moisture. Drinking plenty of fluids will also help to keep the skin and body hydrated all winter long.

Stay warm and hydrated!

1. What’s your name & occupation?
Stacie Krajchir-Tom
Lifestyle Curator / Publicist

2. Describe your beauty routine.
I tend to keep things pretty simple. I lean toward organic products because they are the most gentle on my skin. I use a gentle exfoliator followed by serum and lots and lots of moisturizer! I am sort of obsessed with being over moisturized… I think that comes with being raised on an island and always being in the ocean and sunshine…I try to do what I can to protect my hair, face and body.

3. What are three things that you absolutely cannot live without?
The ocean
My sons laughter
Photos of my family, friends, special moments and inspiration surrounding me in my home, office and art studio
Black fine point sharpie – I am a constant doodler and list maker

4. What is your favorite part about being a woman?
Women are fearless, we’re nurturing, great problem solvers, we’re efficient and inspiring. We mentor, incubate and lift each other UP, and that inspires me as a woman. I love being part of a tribe of other likeminded women and seeing what happens when we band together to achieve  anything we put our minds to– be it global change, local, community based or universal. We get it done. Being able to create a life inside me, naturally feed my child and being a mother is incredible.

7. Tell us why you love Doctors Scrub Advanced as much as we do 🙂
I love that it’s hypoallergenic and it’s packed with organic red tea and soothing seaweed extract that feels yummy. The texture of the crystals is super unique and interesting. The hyaluronic acid makes me know it’s working to fix the texture of my sun damaged skin which is top priority for me.
