It’s time for pumpkin flavored lattes, chic oversized sweaters, boots and layering. We love fall fashion. Getting ready for fall is easier than you think, you’ll just need to add a couple amazing staples that you’ll wear throughout the season, which will make you feel excited and renewed.  As as a fashion blogger, I spend A LOT of time thinking of what pieces are the best investments and how I can take what I already have in my closet and make it new again! Re-inventing what you already have in your wardrobe is key. Here are a few pieces I’m coveting for the season.

Y.A.S Henni Coat in Orange – this color is appearing everywhere! I’m a big supporter of color, after moving from New York to LA, I realize I have way too much black. Make a statement with a beautiful coat that will brighten up a possibly gloomy cold day. Orange isn’t your color? Try Tibi’s Bonded Shearling Fencing Coat or Club Monaco’s Carolyn Jacket I love the multiple materials and colors. Another goodie is this Jenni Kayne Pony Panel Coat, with just a touch of leopard.

It took me a minute to re-adopt the idea of plaid, but after seeing how cute it can be in a dress with boots or adding a touch of color with a plaid scarf, I’m totally on board.

Over-the-Knee boots are SO the item this fall. Worried about looking like Julia Roberts in Pretty Women? Don’t worry, as long as you don’t pair them with a skin tight dress, you wont, trust me. Wear them with skinny jeans or leather leggings and a huge over-sized sweater for a chic, cool and sexy look. These Chinese  Laundry boots are super chic and just the right price.  Also, these Alice and Olivia boots are to die for.

To stay in the game this season, it’s key to bring your hat game.  From leather caps to fedoras, I’m loving them all. This grey number by Michael Stars will literally go with anything. Or, wear a leather cap with any dressy look to tone it down a notch for daytime.

Seriously, how effortlessly cool does she look in this l vegan leather top by BCBG? Leather is another must-have these season and seasons to come. From leather tops in black or tan, leather leggings with boots and a casual t-shirt, or caps hats, you’ll make a statement with leather this season!

A few months ago, I quit coffee.

Coffee-1

I love the scent of coffee and the community of coffee shop lingering with a friend. I love the focused tunnel vision and mental efficiency it gave me. It jolted me awake to focus on the day’s tasks and while on deadline, I re-upped after lunch to stay in the air.

One day when I didn’t feel like refilling, I became useless the rest of the afternoon. My mind wandered down internet rabbit holes, nothing was crossed off my To-Do list and it ended in me taking a nap. At 3pm. Even with the most delicious cake, inevitable sugar coma forces you put the fork down. It was time to detox from my dependency on the liquid motivation.

I started on a weekend. You need a couple of days off to sweat it out. It feels like being hungover without the fun of the night before. You’re going to get headaches. Drink a lot of water.

Substituting tea helps taper down through the transition. One cup of black tea or Yerba Mate tea is something like ¼ cup of coffee. For all you coffee drinkers, that’s like eating a bite of Hershey Kiss. Not even close to satisfying.

But after a few weeks, my body adjusted. I embraced the variety of tea flavors: spiced decaf chai with extra cinnamon and almond milk and floral green teas. My energy was more even throughout the whole day instead of big high and low swings. If I hit a creative block and need an extra energy jolt, I take my dog out for a quick walk to clear the mind.

It’s not that coffee is totally bad for you (unless you’re drinking calorie rich lattes with a lot of syrup). Similar to juice cleansing, it’s refreshing to reset and recalibrate the body from caffeine excess once in a while. Plus, my worst coffee benders were intensifying high-strung deadline stress, and that’s a no-no for keeping skin clear of breakouts.

I started up drinking coffee again slowly, with strictly half a cup a day. It’s not only much more potently effective, it becomes a special treat to really savor a quality roast.

The Daily Scrub is so happy to introduce Kailey Konow, the gorgeous editor and founder of the popular Pretty and PinKK blog! The Holiday season brings so much happiness and a lot of dinners, parties and fun. Weather you are on the go every night or once a week, we all need a few extra beauty tips during the overload of the holidays. Pretty and PinKK reports on the DO’s + DON’T’s for beauty this season!

The holidays are my favorite time of year. The streets are dressed up with special once-a-year décor, stores are enveloped with mouth-watering scents, houses dazzle with pretty lights all-a-glow, and the ground glistens with a fresh blanket of snow.  If you can ignore the long lines, the now more-than-occasional rudeness and the sweat on your brow from going in and out of overheated shops, then you can really appreciate the beauty of the season.

The beauty world is no different. Everyone seems to up their game a bit. Bright and colorful packaging from your favorite brands; gorgeous window displays featuring seasonal kits you “have to have”; and even daring makeup looks from that girl next door who never wears makeup, holidays are a time to play. So what’s my idea of holiday beautiful? Sparkle! The holidays give you this freedom to add a little of this or a dash of that– sort of a license to sparkle, if you will.

Here are my DO’s and DON’Ts for that beautiful, sparkly holiday look:

DO opt for shimmer not glitter on your face. Big chunks of glitter can look obvious or immature. Stay sweet with shimmer.

DON’T go overboard. From sparkly nail polish to twinkly eye shadow, you could literally glow from head to toe! Pick one or two features to highlight and keep the rest neutral or matte. For example, if you shimmer your eyes, keep your lips matte.

DO go for glitter or shimmer nail polish. Nails are the one acceptable place to have some fun!

DON’T think you’re too old to pull off some sparkle in your life. Apply in areas with few lines or wrinkles so the shimmer won’t draw attention to them. Shimmer eyeliners and cheek highlighter are great options for any age.

DO stay away from shimmer liquids for eyes and face. These can often apply unevenly if you’re not a pro. Sweeps of shimmer powders are more subtle, buildable and much easier to control.

DON’T sweep or brush on sparkle eye shadow.  This can literally make it spread all over your face. Instead, pat it on to keep a controlled sparkly eye (and don’t forget that eye primer so your hard work lasts!).

DO remove sparkly makeup with a cotton round, some baby power and hairspray. Sound funny? Well, it works well to help remove most of the sparkle before you cleanse your face. Take a cotton round, apply a little baby powder, quickly spray with a shot of hairspray and gently buff away. The baby powder acts as friction to help buff while the hair spray helps the sparkle stick to the cotton pad.

My best tip to surely sparkle this holiday season? DO wear a smile. It’s infectious, spirited and, most importantly, holiday beautiful.
