I’ve never really loved rules, especially fashion rules. Fashion is about expressing yourself, wearing pieces that help you shine and oftentimes, breaking boundaries. That’s why I’m excited to talk a few rules that you should DEFINITELY be breaking.

Don’t Mix Prints

I really applaud the person who one day decided to mix a floral pant with a striped shirt because it was simply genius. To rock this trend, it must be done boldly and confidentially. Rule of thumb, stick to stripe and a pattern.

Don’t Wear White After Labor Day

This rule is the absolute worst, an all-white look is one of the chicest looks, especially for winter. Think white wool, cashmere, mohair, flannel, silk, and leather materials for layering.

Silver & Gold Jewelry Don’t Go Together

We can credit the fashion blogger sphere for re-defining what’s right and wrong when it comes to jewelry. There’s no rules at an arm parties. We’ve seen beautiful images of Pinterest, Interests of countless bloggers who says YES to mixing metals. You should too.

Denim On Denim Is A Fashion Faux Pas

An all denim look is always a win. Pair various washes or colors. Check out my recent post layering three types of denim here.

Sweatshirts Are Strictly Casual Wear

There’s no easier way to look effortlessly chic than a sweatshirt. It says “not trying” while looking endlessly cool with a long maxi or fancier skirt. It’s an easy way to dress down any outfit for day.

This holiday make the season a little brighter for others. Giving back is a great thing to do all year round, but the holidays tend to bring out the charitable side in most people and we are particularly excited to announce a brand new partnership for Goldfaden MD this holiday.

GOLDFADEN MD teams up with I AM THAT GIRL, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization that encourages girls to Be, Love and Express who they are through positive education, community and media content, turning self-doubt into self-love.  Through this partnership, GOLDFADEN MD is working to bring awareness to beauty from a skin health standpoint and institute a layer of efficient self acceptance.

“We are particularly excited to be part of this charity, as working with young women to increase their self perception and boost self confidence is the core of our business,” says Lauren Wolk.

From November 15th through December 31st 2013, GOLDFADEN MD will be donating 10% of proceeds from their Radiant Renewal Starter Kit to I AM THAT GIRL, helping young girls battle common skin concerns that often lead to insecurities. Aimed at boosting self-acceptance and skin-health awareness through skincare products, the Radiant Renewal Starter Kit includes three powerhouses Doctor’s Scrub, Pure Start and Vital Boost, targeted towards a flawless, luminescent complexion.

“True beauty goes beyond skin deep, but with the pressures of today’s society, it’s evident that everyone, young women especially, are striving for that close-to-perfect skin. With the promotion of the Radiant Renewal Starter Kit, we strive to provide these women with the tools needed to obtain healthy skin and as a result, have the confidence to face the day to day pressures,”Lisa Goldfaden explains.

Coinciding with the launch event to highlight the partnership, a social media giveaway initiative will be activated to spread hopeful messages to young females. Make sure to follow @GoldfadenMD on Instagram to learn more about how you can participate! #WeAreThatGirl / @IAmThatGirl / @GoldfadenMD

We Are That Girl!

Living out of a suitcase for weeks at a time means that you don’t have an extra inch of precious carry-on space for both a futuristic moisture-wicking high-tech top and a cool vintage muscle tank. I still live by the same nomad philosophy at home by keeping my wardrobe lean and choosing items that look streetwear rad but will be comfortable for going straight to a salty, dusty or rocky adventure.

Somewhere in between hardcore camping and an afternoon stroll in nature, here’s what I can’t wait to wear this Fall that fulfills both the fashionable and functional checklists.

POLER Willow reversible poncho (

Lightweight for compressing into a backpack, Poler’s Willow poncho hits on the cape trend and looks more sculpturally cool than a traditional windbreaker. Choose the color—reversible sky blue or mustard—based on your mood and outfit of the day.

BRIXTON Detroit shirt (

There’s something about men’s shirts that hang off a woman’s body in an effortless tomboy way, plus this Brixton baseball tee has a cool athletic-looking twist.

Teva De La Vina boot (,default,pd.html?start=2&cgid=women-boots)

I live by Teva’s hiking shoes for uphill walks on dirt trails. I love the idea of these modern boots that have toothy rubber soles and comfortable cushioning for walking all day anywhere, but never looking like a tourist in sensible walking shoes.

Michi Rifical leggings at Carbon 38 (

It’s not where you can wear these Michi leggings, but more like where can you not wear these leggings? The sleek styles lines of the sheer mesh adds a dressed-up vibe and hello, they are leggings—run around in them.

STANCE Vortex socks (

Don’t forget about your socks. I wear Stance socks in fun patterns to show slivers of vivid color every day.
